Another Christmas classic and probably the easiest Christmas treat you’ll ever make. Yet so good. That’s Coconut Drops (Paleo, Low Carb, Keto).
This might not be the most classic Christmas recipe you can whip up this year, but that’s the thing. Why not? Why not to make something different? Everyone is making rum balls. Don’t get me wrong, I will still make my version of Rum Balls too. But at a same time I felt like making something new. Something more suitable for the hot Australian weather. Something with refreshing tropical flavour, yet still in small bite sizes perfect for the Christmas nibbling. And with citrus fruits in season I simply couldn’t resist. So here are the Lime Bites (Paleo, Low Carb, Vegan), perfect little treat after your Christmas lunch or just during the day to hush the hanger (because no one wants to be hungry and cranky during Christmas).
When going to Thailand, many tourists are excited to see elephants. Maybe even to have an elephant ride… But thankfully the education of the public on this matter is spreading quickly and most travellers know better now. Know that riding an elephant shouldn’t be an option. That even though elephants are such huge animals even a small weight on their back can seriously hurt them. Not even mentioning the practice used by the owners to “tame” the elephants. Like separating babies from the mothers, starving the elephants or using bull hooks to manipulate the animal…
You don’t have to be a master chef to join a cooking class in Thailand. You don’t need to have any kitchen skills really. The only thing you’ll need is a love for food.
If you walk through the streets of any Thai town or city and your sensations are dazed by the smells from the small street stalls, you are on a good way to enjoy a cooking class. If your mouth gets watery just thinking about the next exotic dish you are going to try on your travels, you should consider learning how to bring the little adventure home with you. If you wonder what are the names of all the beautiful fresh herbs and spices, you’d most likely enjoy yourself watching how to use them in the traditional cuisine. Only if you don’t like Thai food, I would recommend to skip this experience during your trip. Otherwise, you should definitely give it a try.
Easter is around the corner (even though some shops here in Australia started selling hot cross buns and carrot cakes already at the end of January!) and I’m starting to think what food to make this year. Because same as other holidays, Easter usually comes hand in hand with lots of food in our household. I love meeting with my family and friends over good food. But I also like to stay healthy and away from foods that are simply not worth it. And with the Easter goodies most of the times the store bought cakes and pastries are really really far from healthy and good for us. Which means they are not worth it for me.
When you say Australia, most of the people in my home country would imagine long sunny beaches and tanned surfers with blond curly hair and bare feet. And even though the reality is in most places a bit different, here in Byron Bay this image certainly comes alive.
Never ending strands of sand and ocean bursting with all the shades of blue. Wild waves and beautiful nature. And people from all over the world, surfers and hippies, as well as families with children and lucky pensioners. All of that and much more, that is Byron Bay.
I think that now it’s the perfect time to start prepping the Christmas sweets. So we won’t have to go nuts just few days before Christmas and actually enjoy the holiday mood. Hopefully. Because that’s something I’m really aiming for this year. How is it in your household? Do you stress about Christmas and try to do everything last minute? Or do you stay completely calm and let things be? I have to admit that I’m usually trying to do everything just few days ahead (as I usually work till the last day). Clean our home, shop for all the food, then prep all the food, get the gifts, decorate the tree… It can be quite a lot if you are working (taking care of your family, … you name it) to do all the extra stuff in just few days. So why not make it easier this year?
I have to say this is my favourite sugar-free but sweet recipe I made so far. A total must have this Christmas. And it’s so easy. And so much better for you than the store bought version. Which is full of refined sugar, palm oil, skim milk, whey powder and artificial flavours by the way. Not nice. Definitely not healthy. Anyway, why not to try something healthier this Christmas? These no baked Coconut Snowballs are super simple, free of gluten, sugar and dairy, but still delivering the desired taste of holidays. When it comes to Christmas, there is one thing that almost everybody loves back home. The Christmas sweets and cookies. Almost every family would have a plate of these little goodies on their Christmas table. These days lots of people buy them in bakeries or from enthusiastic individuals as the baking requires a lot of time. But some Czech women would still “compete” – who will make a wider variety of them, who will have more of the difficult ones to make etc. Some stick to the time-tested family recipes and some try something new every year. My mom used to make at least 12 different types of these little sweets when we were kids. And we just could’t wait to finally test them with my brother…
Is it too early to start posting Christmas recipes? I hope not. Because I’m getting really excited. My first Christmas in Australia. However, I decided to share a Czech recipe today. Because I’m still going to stick to a few traditions even if overseas. So let’s start the holiday season with this Traditional Czech Potato Salad (Paleo, Whole30).
