Anzac Biscuits (Paleo, Low Carb, Vegan)

Anzac Biscuits (Paleo, Low Carb, Vegan)

Today Australia celebrates Anzac Day and honours all the men and women that served in all wars.
Originally ANZAC Day is the anniversary of the landing of troops from Australia and New Zealand on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey during in World War I.

But today it’s a National remembrance of all the men and women in wars and conflicts and commemorative services are held across the whole country. First services are at dawn, which is the time of the ANZAC army (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) first landing in Gallipoli in 1915. Then later in the day former soldiers take marches in many places.

Fennel And Butternut Squash Puree (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

Fennel And Butternut Squash Puree (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

Fennel can be quite strong in flavour when by itself and that sets a lot of people off. But combine it with the sweetness of butternut squash and creaminess of ghee and you’ll find a smooth yet decadent side dish. It’s perfect with grilled and roasted meats where it almost plays the main role. However it also perfectly supports full flavours of more exotic dishes like curries and aromatic stews.

Chicken Larb (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

Have you tried Chicken Larb, the traditional Thai chicken salad yet? If not, you definitely should. Because it’s an embodiment of freshness in a dish. It will awaken your senses with it’s tangy, yet savoury taste, leaving your lips pleasantly tingly from the chilli and your belly nicely full. Close your eyes and transfer yourself to the busy street stalls of Thailand.

Homemade Tartare Sauce (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

Homemade Tartare Sauce (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

I’ve decided to give up eggs for a little while again. Thankfully I am not allergic anymore, but lately I have some serious skin breakouts and my eczema is worsening every day. So I’m gonna try to cut the egg use to a minimum, together with most nightshades and few other things, and see if that will help. But before I start posting recipes without eggs and maybe a bit about the progress, here is one traditional eggy one for you. Homemade Tartare Sauce (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb). Because I can’t just keep it for myself when it’s already been made, can I? 🙂 And trust me, it’s not worth buying tartare sauce in the shop which is full of unnecessary stuff (thickeners, gums, sugar…?), when you can make it easily at home. See the recipe below and found out how.

Beef Burrito Bowl (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

Beef Burrito Bowl (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

If you are following the food scene a little, you probably just couldn’t not notice that food in a bowl is a thing lately. It’s everywhere. All over the social media. Buddha bowls, breakfast bowls, vegan bowls… You can put pretty much anything in a bowl and give it a fancy name as long as it looks pretty. And that’s what kinda sets me off. It started as beautiful and inspiring nourishing meals. What’s left now in most of the cases is the beautiful. Good looking – for the picture. Nourishing? Not so much.

Anyway, I didn’t want to turn this post into a negative thought on this trend (even though I have my doubts). Because there are still typical bowl meals I enjoy very much. And this is also a post about a bowl, right? But the thing is those all have something in common, no matter the style or cuisine. They are healthy, combining ALL the important macronutrients in one meal – good source of protein and fat and reasonable portion of carbohydrates (from vegetables or fruits). Like this Beef Burrito Bowl (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb) I’m sharing today. Continue reading

Beetroot Hummus (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

Beetroot Hummus (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

So, Valentine’s Day is around the corner. And I thought that as a good food blogger I should post a recipe for this special day. And that’s exactly when I get a bit stuck. I don’t like to do things just because they are expected. Or because others do it. I don’t even really celebrate Valentine’s. But. It’s a good excuse to enjoy some good food and drinks with my husband. I’m always in when it’s about food. But honestly I just don’t feel like coming up with another chocolate recipe because it’s expected for this day. So here is something different we would enjoy – Beetroot Hummus (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb). I think it’s actually perfect for Valentine’s, at least because of the colour 🙂

Cauliflower Rice (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

Cauliflower Rice (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

I know this recipe is not a brain cracker, but I can see it on the social media or when talking to friends and colleagues, that lots of people still don’t know what the heck is the cauliflower rice? What do you have it with? And how do you even make it?
Well, here is the most verified process of how to make a cauliflower rice from our household. I think we are actually almost pros in making cauli rice. Because we honestly have it with our meals at least once a week. It’s stupid easy to make. I just can’t praise this side dish enough. Whoever thought about it first is a genius. Because this is just one of the best sides you can have with your curries, stews, stir-fry etc. when maintaining a healthy life style.

Super Greens Soup (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

Super Greens Soup (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

It feels like I haven’t posted a recipe for soup for ages. And since I am a true soup lover, this is something I have to fix immediately. So here is a recipe for Super Greens Soup (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb) we had for breakfast the other day. Yes, you read that right. Soup for breakfast. Boom.

Because what’s easier to digest in the early morning than a nice bowl of warm healthy soup? Not that we wake up early. That would probably kill me. But I like to have a soup for breakfast anyway. It’s ready to go, so there is no hastle about not having time for a healthy breakfast. And you can just load with all the good stuff you can imagine. Like the Super Greens Soup (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb).

Vietnamese Salad With Meatballs (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

Vietnamese Salad With Meatballs (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)

I’ve decided to do another round of Whole30 a couple of days ago. No, not because of the new year – new me. I don’t really believe in this stuff. Even though I do have few plans and resolutions including food for this year, I am pretty happy with the eating habits I adopted during the first round of my Whole30 and after and don’t need any big changes in my diet. But I think that January still is a great month for Whole30 after indulging a little more and moving a little less over the holidays. And I’m super excited about it because my husband decided to do this round with me, seeing the great impact it had on me last year. So wish us good luck and hopefully we will finish these 30 days together.

Top 10 Most Popular Peckish Girl Recipes Of 2017

Top 10 Most Popular Peckish Girl Recipes Of 2017

As it is my first year of blogging which means sharing my cooking adventures with few more people than my family, there is quite a bit of room for reflecting at the end of this year. But even though there are definitely things that I think I could’ve done different, things that didn’t go very well (ehm, my first attempt for flax-seed flour goodies?) and things I could’ve improve, I prefer to think mainly about the good stuff. Why should we beat ourselves for something we didn’t achieve just because one year is ending? There is gonna be plenty of room to do our best the next year too. So let’s just cast aside the “unsuccessful” days (things are usually for a reason, right?) and focus on the bright side. What are your achievements this year? What are you really proud of? I would love to hear from you.
