It looks like winter might be finally coming to Brisbane. After a long time we woke up to a cold and rainy day today. Well, the temperatures are still similar to an average summer in Czech Republic, so it’s not that bad. And not that I like it, but I guess we need the rain every now and then. And finally the cooler weather is a good excuse for me to cook more soups. So I’m gonna start the winter season with this Super Easy Leek And Sweet Potato Soup.
When you go to a Greek restaurant, which are your to go meals? I usually try to taste different foods as much as possible, but if I should pick my favourites, it would definitely be Moussaka, grilled octopus and last but not least Gyros. Chicken lamb or beef, give me all. Preferably as the whole set with some flat bread and Tzatziki too.
Anyway, by now you could probably notice that I am all about creating healhier (paleo-ish) versions of my favourite dishes. That’s why I decided to make a Chicken Gyros With Tzatziki at home as well. And I didn’t even miss on the bread. To draw in the detail I used Coconut Flour Savory Pancakes as the base for all the goodness which I am going to share with you below.
This easy recipe for Cauliflower Fried Rice is perfect for those who love the Asian cuisine but are watching the carbs a little bit. Or for people who are keen about the daily veggie intake. Or simply for those who want to try something different and eat healthy. It’s a great side dish but you can definitely have it by itself as a small meal too.
Becase I am a person who fulfills the word, I’m finally sharing the promised recipe for Ajvar (Roasted Red Pepper And Eggplant Relish). That you never heard of this sauce? It’s a traditional Balkan sauce/relish made from roasted red peppers and eggplant. And you should definitely give it a try as it’s simply delicious. It’s the perfect addition to the weekend BBQ and roasted meats, easily outclassing the store-bought ketchups and sauces.
I always loved to try new meals and ingredients when possible. But it wasn’t so easy at all the times. Just so you know, I am from a small Czech town with 7000 residents, where the new is not accepted so easily sometimes. Just for example, apart from Czech restaurants, we have one Chinese restaurant and few pizza places in my hometown. And that’s as far as the curiosity of new things can get. I believe that these days it might be better and the young people are more open to the new flavours. But it will probably still take some time before the food mentality changes here.
As much as I love soups, sometimes I have to spare this feeling for stews too. Or pretty much anything with a bit of liquid from one pot. Curry or goulash attending the competition of a perfect meal as well. There is nothing better on a cold rainy day than a nice bowl of comforting hot food filled with as many healthy things as your pantry offers.
Would you like to add more veggies to your breakfast game, but can’t really handle them raw in the morning? Trust me, you are not alone here. I would probably get sick if I was supposed to chew on half of raw capsicum for brekky. However, like with a wave of a magic wand, I can eat almost the whole thing if roasted. Preferably as a part of hash. Like in this Beetroot and Sweet Potato Hash.
It’s still such warm weather here in Australia which for me means lots of BBQ and lighter meals. That’s why I made the Sticky Ginger Chicken Wings yesterday (we were so hungry that I just wasn’t able to make pictures, but I will be definitely making the wings soon again) and this Asian Style Coleslaw on a side. At least the salad is served cold so I could snap a couple pics before dinner.
